I won't talk about politics but...

... what the Greens don't understand is, a strong economy is the best social security.

Right, that's not politics.

Wandered along to Martin Ferguson's lecture/talk thing on Tuesday night at USyd. Martin Ferguson, by the way, is the Federal Energy/Resource Minister (and federal minister for Batman, BTW. Srsly. It's on his home page.), but being the kind of person who never really knows what they're getting themselves into (I heard there was a talk on resource and energy law, QED), I turned up to find protesters tussling with security at the front door of the venue.

Now, I'll say this now. I am definitely a left-leaner. I am all for advocacy. But really, make sure there is a point to your protesting.
These ... mostly students and members of SEAN were protesting against the planned dumping of Australia's nuclear waste at Muckarty Station in the Northern Territory. To the best of my knowledge, Muckarty is owned by the Muckarty Aboriginal people under native title (i.e. the government has kindof accepted that Aboriginal people were living there for a while (read: over 40 000 years) and maybe the land might actually belong to them benefit from their stewardship.

So, in order to dump nuclear waste (according to Mr Ferguson) the land must be volunteered. And certain individuals, purported to be representative of the Muckarty people, volunteered the Muckarty land. So the Minister decided that this was where the waste was going to be dumped.

And that upset some people.

Hence the protest. Unfortunately, the protest was pretty much next to pointless, as the case is currently in the Federal Court of Australia being argued out by lawyers now, and no amount of protesting (even were it directed at the judge himself and no the Minister) will make a difference. Gotta love rule of law.

On the topic of law, I've just realised that John Su (who you may remember from these posts: ) has created the most awesome characters in the field of law (enough to give Ace Attorneys a run for their money).

Edfried is my favourite :D

On a completely different topic, here is a pictures, finally, of an amigurumi Gideon. He looks... sorry Tim. ^^; I ran out of time.
