Since I'm lazy, I'm going to do The Goth-y Blog Challenge in a single post too.

Yeah alright, I'll take a break from Encyclopaedia entries and do something else. Here are my answers to The Goth-y Blog Challenge by Cody Darkstalker.

1. 5 pieces that every Goth wardrobe should have, regardless of style
Hmm. Boots, black jacket of some sort, gloves, scarf, waistcoat/vest.

2. 5 movies for Goths
1- Mirrormask. The outfits of the Dark Queen, Dark Princess and dark Helena are pretty cool. Plus the movie itself has beautiful graphics and a great storyline. Look out for the Herring Joke. :P

2 - The Crow. Yeah I know it's cliched but - There's reasons, okay?
3 - Dark City.
4 - Donnie Darko. I'm eternally grateful to my year 11 English teacher introducing it to me.
5 - Nightmare Before Christmas :D

3. What my own Goth lifestyle is like
I tend to be a pretty casual goth. I do like to dress up, but often I feel overdressed. For example, I have four beautiful choker cascade necklaces which I would love to wear FOREVER AND ALWAAAAAYYYSSSS~ but when I put them on I feel like an Empress or something.. whilst everyone else is in jeans and a t-shirt or whatever. :(

4. Favorite thing to put on my head

A black beanie I knitted for myself. It's a square shape, so when I put it on, it looks like I have cat ears. :3

5. My wardrobe turnover
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.

6. My favorite Goth brand

Don't have one. I buy second-hand most of the time, without looking for a specific brand.

7. Why I wear Goth fashion?

Cos it makes me look scary but sexy at the same time ;D

8. Why don't I wear Goth all the time?

I don't wear Goth all the time because sometimes it's not practical (eg, I dance a lot, mainly in hip-hop style, and it's been really hot here recently) and sometimes because it's a family member's birthday/special gathering and my mother disapproves of me wearing black.

9. 5 keywords that describe my personal Goth style

Fierce, capable, sexy, confident, BAMF (although occasionally I like to look demure...)

10. How I first found out about Goth fashion

Answered in my previous set of answers.

11. 3 trends I wish would come back

1 - Tattoo necklaces. I remember when they were readily available. Now I have a bit of money, can't find them in shops anywhere. Will have to buy them online :|
2 - Gypsy skirts. I've been combing second-hand shops looking for a black, floor length gypsy skirt (the type that had eyelet detailing and evoked images of running around barefoot)
3 - Fishtail skirts. I'm sure they were a thing for a while.

12. Combining other fashions with Goth

Sure, why not? I have clothing which is not Goth, and I like to try to Gothify it, or may a sort of pastiche of a style.

13. Goths I have met in real life

I think I probably only know one goth, and he's a medieval goth. As in, he's a member of the dark ages society and you can regularly find him on campus swinging a sword at someone.

14. Goths I would love to meet

Well... I guess La Carmina is pretty cool.

15. 3 things I wish I was told when I was a Baby Bat

1 - Wearing t-shirts all the time might be practical on the surface, but they really don't look that great on you.
2 - Do something with your hair other than tie it in a ponytail.
3 - There's nothing wrong with wearing skirts or makeup.

16. 10 facts about my Goth wardrobe

1 - I have a lot of black and/or red clothing.
2 - The sea of black takes up half of the space.
3 - I have lots of cat-themed items
4 - I don't really like spots.
5 - I have a lot of clothes and accessories. Too much.
6 - But that may be because I wear things into the ground and they need to be replaced.
7 - Seriously, I have two cupboards.
8 - Most of it is second hand.
9 - I have a lot of silly hats - cat faces, panda heads, a black chicken hat my boyfriend brought back from Nepal...
10 - I can't think of anything else to say.

17. My first concert/festival

Uh, wow, that was... either The All-American Rejects, with Hoobastank supporting, or All Time Low, supported by Spinning O'Neall and Heroes For Hire.

18. Trends I thought I would never get into, but I now love
I was a bit leery of the shorts and tights thing, and I couldn't quite get it for a while, but now I really love it, especially on days that are not quite hot but not really cold either...

19. Trends I thought I loved, but now I'm not too keen on

Cat ears headbands. They're cute, but I feel like a two-bit cosplayer wearing them in public :/

20. How satisfied I am with my current wardrobe

Not bad... I haven't really had a chance to dress up, what with the heat, but the items I have are pretty good.

21. Plan for a trip! A week's worth of Goth outfits I can fit in a small suitcase
Depends where you're going. A one piece swimming costume with an interesting design can double as a tank top when paired with shorts. Tights, both whole (to pair with shorts if it gets cold) and with the crotch cut out to make a shirt thing.

You know what, this is too hard without a destination in mind. I need to know where I'm going to account for weather, occasions and activities.

22. How I accessorize
I like to colour co-ordinate, mostly. If there's an accent colour in my clothing, I will look for jewellery/accessories in that colour. I tend not to have too many colours all at once, unless I'm going for a black-and-rainbow look.

23. What influences my Goth style
Tumblr. :P Also, Japanese street fashion and whatever is going around blogs at the time. Still, I have a core style that I don't compromise on.

24. What's in my makeup bag?
The one I carry around with me has lip balm, black mascara, black liquid eyeliner, black pencil eyeliner and a small palette of eyeshadow in white, grey and black.

25. Best places to wear Goth fashions
University. Place is crawling with alternative types.

26. How I get out of a wardrobe slump

I turn my wardrobe inside out, looking at everything I have. I also scour fashion Tumblrs to get inspiration.

27. Purses that I love

I don't really like the purse I have at the moment. It's a fairly cheaply designed one given to me by my boyfriend's mother for Christmas (it has come apart actually, but unfortunately it's fixable).

I love Deva Australia's designs. Despite my love of wearing black, I still love looking at bright or pastel colours, so the bright wallets that Deva makes are really great eyecandy to me.

28. Corsets or no?

YES. I would like to have another corset. Or two.

29. Goth-ing things in my everyday life

I've just finished putting bat decals on my wardrobe doors and CD rack. My old school lunch box is covered with sparkly skull stickers. I stitched an Emily the Strange patch on a old jacket of my boyfriend's that he didn't fit into... (list goes on and on...)

30. How long it took me to build a complete wardrobe

A few years. I needed money and enough backbone to tell my mother that it was no longer her business to dress me.

31. Impulse buys that were totally worth it

Just before Christmas there was a $2 sale at a little stall selling jewellery. I was walking past and decided to have a quick look, and ended up with three cute little fox rings and some beautiful earrings. I generally never go out with the intention to buy something, so I guess I always impulse buy? :P

32. My best deal

See above.

33. Something that I made

I make lots of things. Jewellery especially - I'm in the process of making heaps of rings using a tutorial I found on youtube.

34. Wardrobe blunders! Things I bought that I ended up regretting!

Too many things to list or remember. Moving along...

35. What I thought when I got my first real Goth fashion item

"I'm so GAWFICK right?" I can't actually remember, but that was probably it.

36. Nails to match my favorite looks

Blogger won't let me embed these for some reason:

37. Something that's not my style, but I love anyways

All the styles! Seriously, I have massive respect for anyone engaging in subcultures, especially those in a subculture that is particularly vilified. I think Scene Kids have awesome hair, Pastel Goths show a great use of studs and fairy kei kids just look amazing.

38. Favorite hair style

Well, regarding myself, I think I look best with short hair. Specifically with a side parting, longer fringe, visible ears and a ragged sort of back. I especially like to backcomb the back section of my hair and wear a headband or something.

Generally, I think the best hairstyle is an elegantly executed messy bun. Something with lots of tendrils and pretty hair accessories.

Like this sort of thing. Source.

39. Most versatile Goth item I own
Pair of black boots from New Look. I can wear them with almost everything. Except I've broken them. I almost couldn't work out to wear when that happened, since I use them so much D:

40. 5 inspirational fictional characters

I kind of started this but never finished. So, here goes:
1 - Ririko from Kechonpa: rokku gyaru style with tartan, fingerless gloves, leather, studs
2 - Setsuka Heel from Skip Beat: a sort of casual visual kei style. Again, leather, fingerless gloves, studs, chains,
3 - Nana Oosaki from NANA (these are all manga characters, hmm...): tartan, leather (seeing a trend here?), fishnet, ripped fabric,
4 - Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time: she's a rock chick. QED.
5 - Alyzon Whitestarr (from the book of the same name): I like the description of her once her friend gives her a makeover.

41. Fondest concert/festival
Probably the All-American Rejects one. Why? The Reason, of course. As in Hoobastank's "The Reason". It was clear that a lot of people where there for Hoobastank, not AAR, because when "The Reason" came on, everyone was singing at the top of their lungs to the point where the frontman would stop and just listen to them in amazement. The feels~

42. The ways in which I fit the cliche

I like cats and skulls and black. I like to wear black eyeliner. I think a cemetery would be a great place for a picnic.

My velvet gentleman looking philosophical.

43. The ways in which I do not fit the cliche
I don't really like horror movies that much, especially slasher ones. They're kind of boring. I need something cerebral (although Pan's Labyrinth made me feel queasy).

44. How strangers react to my clothes, and how I react to their reactions

Usually guys checking me out. I'm not that over-the-top, so I don't get the 'do you worship satan' approach. Instead it's 'hey there lady in the sexy black outfit'.

45. Something that was a gift

Lots of things. Occasionally my friends and I do a clothing swap, basically showing each other what we're planning to donate, and if they like it, they take it instead. I just got a tonne of clothes off one of my best friends, which is nice.

46. Parasols: Vital or frivolous?

Only if they're also actually umbrellas. I find that they're not very useful if they aren't.

47. The item in my wardrobe that was the hardest to get

Probably the corset. I don't like putting up with my mum complaining about me buying clothes so I try not to buy online, otherwise when it get delivered she'll immediately want to know what it is. I had to go into the city to the Markets (which were, at the time, open only on certain days).

48. My "signature" outfit

Pleather jacket, tight-fit plain black shirt, black corduroy skinnies, studded belt, black boots. Rawk.

49. My favorite Goth book and movie

I need to think about this...

Book... does The Sandman count? I know it's a comic, so if not, American Gods. Movie... Probably Mirrormask (yup, love Neil Gaiman).

50. What's in my closet, but I haven't worn yet!

Some awesome door-kicking knee high boots. Why haven't I worn them yet? It's too hot! They're falling apart! I don't dare to touch them! Hurray! TTOTT

51. Predict the next Goth trend!

No!

52. How Goth has changed me

I'm a lot more confident. Also, I think it played some small part in bringing me and my boyfriend together in the first place (he's a keen punk and post punk enthusiast, although he doesn't dress that way)

    1. I'm not really into slasher games either. I occasionally play the really psychological ones like Amnesia and Dark Meadows but that's in very small doses D:
